Emma Thompson joins the cast of “Beauty and the Beast”

Emma Thompson has joined the cast of Beauty and the Beast! The actress, who played Sybill Trelwaney in the Harry Potter films, will reunite with her former co-star Emma Watson, who was previously announced to be playing the role of Belle, in the live-action version of Disney’s 1991 animated classic.

Thompson will play the role of Mrs. Potts, and we should expect to hear her sing since Disney has already confirmed that the movie will feature the 1991 movie’s original songs, as well as new songs written by Alan Menken and Tim Rice. Also added to the cast today is veteran actor Kevin Kline, who will take on the role of Maurice, Belle’s father.
