Oliver Phelps to Star in Live-Action “Dumbo” Remake

The Potter cast are no strangers to Disney films, so it doesn’t surprise us that another Potter star is rumored to be involved with another upcoming classic Disney film live action remake.

I’m sure you will all remember that this month the new live-action Cinderella, directed by Potter alumnus Sir Kenneth Branagh (Professor Lockhart), and starring Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) as the Fairy Godmother, was released in theaters. Plus, we were excited to learn that Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) would be starring as Belle in the upcoming Beauty and the Beast adaptation, alongside Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens.

It was announced at the beginning of March that the next Disney film to get a makeover will be Dumbo. You’ll be excited to learn that Oliver Phelps (George Weasley) has been lined up to play everyone’s favorite elephant, Dumbo! The character will be created with motion capture performances, as well as computer generated effects.

You may remember that last year Oliver starred in a short film called Ears. In the short film, Oliver played a character with large ears, who struggled to be accepted. Was this comedy part maybe preparation for a bigger role? If you missed it, you can check out the short film below:

The film will be directed by Tim Burton, and we’re sure that other Potter stars will be involved, too – but only time will tell. Tim Burton previously directed a live-action version of Alice in Wonderland, starring Helena Bonham Carter, so the film will be in good hands.
