Becoming Harry Potter: Friend of Luna #MNBHP
You could’ve taken anyone!” said Ron in disbelief over dinner. “Anyone! And you chose Loony Lovegood?”
“Don’t call her that, Ron,” snapped Ginny, pausing behind Harry on her way to join friends. “I’m really glad you’re taking her, Harry, she’s so excited.”
HBP
Luna considers Harry one of her few and first friends. A friend she didn’t make until her fifth year. Most of us love the character of Luna, but how many of us were friends with the Lunas at school? The ones no one talked to? They dressed weird? Had strange ideas and interests? Marched to a very unique beat?
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t a very good friend of Lunas when I was in school. I wasn’t very much like Harry at all. I stuck to the crowd I knew and who had similar interests as I did. I didn’t reach out to the friendless. What makes Harry so special to Luna, to Ginny, to so many fans, is that he was a friend to anyone who needed and would allow him to be their friend. He didn’t shy away from the Lunas (and Nevilles); he embraced them and loved them for who they were. And they loved him too.
CHALLENGE
Be more like Harry. Whether you are in school or out of school, don’t be afraid to befriend the offbeat, the unpopular, the friendless. You never know, you may end up loving them as much as Harry loved Luna and Neville; and they may end up loving you even more!
Be a friend to the friendless.
