Helena Bonham Carter Joins Save the Children’s #CountdownToZero Campaign!
Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) has joined forces with other celebrities, including Myleene Klass and Sophie Ellis-Bexter, to raise awareness for Save the Children’s #CountdownToZero campaign! Save the Children invests in childhood and aims to give every child an opportunity to learn and a healthy start. The #CountdownToZero campaign is encouraging UN Leaders, who are due to meet at the UN Development Summit in September, to make important changes that could put an end to preventable child deaths by 2030:
In September world leaders are meeting to agree [to] new global development priorities. It’s critical they strengthen healthcare systems in the poorest countries so [that] we can start the countdown to zero preventable child deaths by 2030.
The campaign, which features images of Helena and the other celebrities making a zero symbol with their hand, is also calling for better healthcare in poorer countries:
Stronger health systems in poorer countries would help end the continuing injustice of children dying from illnesses like pneumonia and malaria.
We know it can be done. The world has halved the number of preventable child deaths since 1990 thanks to increasing access to doctors, nurses, midwives and vaccines.
You can show your support for the #CountdownToZero summit by signing a petition to the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, urging him to help put an end to preventable deaths here.
