Rupert Grint Wins Two Audience Choice Awards for “It’s Only a Play”
Earlier this evening, Broadway.com announced the winners of their 2015 Audience Choice Awards, and we are thrilled to congratulate Harry Potter’s own Rupert Grint on winning not one but two awards for his portrayal of Sir Frank Finger in It’s Only a Play!
The Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards have occurred every year since 2000 with the winners being voted upon by fans, and this year, Grint’s fans came out in droves to support him. He won in both the Favorite Featured Actor and the Favorite Breakthrough Performance (Male) categories.
Grint was also shortlisted in the Favorite Funny Performance category while It’s Only a Play itself was shortlisted in the Favorite Play Revival category.
To win such awards for his debut role on Broadway is a huge accomplishment for Grint, who described his first week in the show as being
the most terrifying experience of my life.
It does sound hopeful that we will get to see Grint appear on Broadway again in the future. He was quoted in the London Evening Standard at the end of last year, saying,
I’m still very new to this theatre stuff, but I love it and definitely want to do more. I get so much more out of it than I do with films.
Other award winners include Kristin Chenoweth, Bradley Cooper, and Darren Criss, who played Harry Potter in the tremendously popular A Very Potter Musical by Team Starkid.
The awards will be presented on May 19 at a private cocktail reception.
Please join us in congratulating Rupert on this tremendous achievement!
