Social Roundup: Tea Time with J.K. Rowling

by Kevin Assam · August 9, 2015

Emma Watson’s Vogue cover may be on the stands, and with it, what surely has to be a fascinating profile piece on her campaigning. However, not to slip by unnoticed was J.K Rowling’s musings on none other than the art of preparing tea. Curious? So are we. It’s time for this week’s Social Roundup.

Emma Watson’s British Vogue September issue cover made its way to newsstands in all its glory. Interestingly, this will be one of her first covers since firmly establishing her #HeForShe campaign. Of which the profile piece is sure to explore.

Meanwhile, J.K. Rowling walked us through her whole thought process of what constitutes good tea. All of which got started in response to a low ball bribe for Fantastic Beasts.

First interview question: are you American? I say this with love, but I cannot trust an American to make me tea. https://t.co/m067KtXCPU

.@AndreaEllenP Interview question two: has your teabag got a string on it?

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) August 3, 2015

When greeted with a less than ideal response involving both a microwave and a string, her reaction was pure gold.

You poor child. Were you raised by wolves? https://t.co/oBTRWY68u1

"Anything is possible if you've got enough nerve." ~@jk_rowling #MotivationMonday

Except making tea. Tea takes skill, not nerve. Tea is not to be made recklessly. https://t.co/EPvlQ1lqS5

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) August 3, 2015

She also challenged us on the sequential addition of milk. For which a suitable answer was finally found.

@jk_rowling Milk after. One bag per person and one for the pot!

— t (@invisiblemtn) August 7, 2015

Full marks. Next week's lesson: loose tea and the proper use of the strainer. https://t.co/N5bkmpRQFR

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) August 7, 2015

Curiously, does all this talk of tea point to something more sinister?

I would never, ever have a Horcrux. They are evil objects created through despicable means! (Possibly a teabag). https://t.co/jcPttBaZuX

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) August 7, 2015

No. And this sadly wasn’t the only rumor she shut down.

Dare to dream.

To all those begging for Potter-on-Ice: the image of Ice Voldemort performing the triple salchow will haunt my dreams tonight. #sick

And in other news, Jessie Cave, who is making her way to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe…

I'm only going to Edinburgh to stalk my boyfriend (and to do a show about my hobby <stalking>) http://t.co/BJ1CP9Eqvv… @FollowTheCow

… put a colorful spin on the issue of “panic packing.”

That’s all for this week’s edition. Be sure to weigh in on whether you’ll be making any changes to your next cuppa’. You never know when you might have to prepare one for the Queen Bee.
