Sword of Gryffindor whereabouts
Dear Professor Longbottom,
I was wondering if the Sword of Gryffindor was kept in your office now? And are you also now the head of Gryffindor? I’ve heard that Harry Potter sometimes comes to Hogwarts to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts, do you guys ever get time together when he’s there? You are very brave by the way; I admire your courage!
Dear writer,
Thank you for your letter!
The Battle of Hogwarts was complete chaos, and after my encounter with the snake, I must have dropped the sword. I don’t remember much of what happened after that. I never found it again; I don’t know if someone else picked it up or if it just disappeared. The sword has magic far beyond my understanding, so I didn’t try to track it down. Wherever it is, I know that it will be there whenever a Gryffindor needs it next.
After Professor McGonagall became Headmistress, Madame Hooch became Head of House. She’s been very good at managing things post-Voldemort, but her years of competitive flying have been catching up to her, and she’s going to be retiring soon. She hasn’t said anything to me yet, but I suspect she would recommend me for the post. I don’t know how well I’d do, but I suppose I wouldn’t do so poorly.
Harry does visit now and then when he has time, usually for proctoring N.E.W.T. exams. I don’t think it is very effective though, as many students get terribly nervous when they have to perform spells in front of Harry Potter – I’m sure I wouldn’t even be able to hold my wand the right way round if I were a student! We pop by the Three Broomsticks if he doesn’t have to Apparate straight back to London. Madame Rosmerta is always happy to see him; she asks after Ron a great deal.
Thank you for the compliments, and the letter!
Neville
