Five of Our Favorite Fandom Pairings: Luna Lovegood Edition
Luna Lovegood is a much-loved character in the Harry Potter fandom. There are thousands of fan fictions dedicated to shipping her with other characters. Luna previously showed up in the article about Draco, and I wanted to take a closer look at her role in the fandom.
Yes, yes, we have.
Luna is my favorite student at Hogwarts. I spent my school days feeling left out because I was too weird. In my case, it was because I loved Harry Potter a little too much (is that actually possible?) and because I preferred my fantasy books to the people around me. Luna didn’t let being called Loony change how she acted, and I decided that if she can do it, so can I. Luna Lovegood is a fantastic character, and I am glad that so many people write about her. She deserves to be a main character.
1. Luna/Harry
Huna is the most popular fandom pairing for Luna. Harry and Luna have a lot of chemistry in the books, and they appear to be kindred spirits in the movies. They both are outsiders who are not completely understood by the people surrounding them. Luna deserves to be with someone who takes her as seriously as Harry does.
2. Luna/Hermione
Luna and Hermione is a fun pairing to read because they are completely different characters.
Well, they do say that opposites attract. Hermione is a very fact-oriented person. She refuses to believe in the creatures that Luna does, simply because there is no proof backing it up. Can you imagine Luna trying to convince Hermione to go on a Snorkack hunt? Maybe together they would help to expand the other’s beliefs a little bit.
3. Luna/Neville
Look at how cute these two are together. This is one of the few movie additions that I like. Sadly, being in the movies does not make it canon, but that doesn’t meant that it isn’t possible. Luna and Neville are both very sweet characters, and I am glad that we can explore this relationship through fan fiction.
4. Luna/Ginny
Friends turned lovers is a common story line in books, television shows, movies, and fan fiction. Therefore, it makes sense that Luna/Ginny would show up on this list. Who knows what happened between these two at Hogwarts during the last book? Ginny is very protective of Luna, and if they were in a relationship Ginny would do everything that she could to keep Luna safe.
5. Luna/Snape
Before writing this article, I had never read a Luna/Snape fan fiction. I knew that the ship existed, but I had never encountered it in my little corner of the fandom. The best part of this pairing is that it takes so long for them to get together. This relationship is good for lovers of long fan fiction. Unexpectedly, they do seem to make a good match.
Honorable Mention: Luna/Dumbledore
This intriguing pairing is on this list because of its most famous shipper, Evanna Lynch. They do seem to have many similarities. Both characters are a little out there and seem to be a bit detached from the present at times. If it weren’t for the huge age difference I’d say that these two are meant to be. With magic anything is possible, right? I’m sure Dumbledore could figure out a De-aging Potion, or he could figure out a creative way to use a Time-Turner.
