Potter DIY: “Potter” Baby Mobile
Mary Tingey is expecting her first baby this month, and she’s going all out—with a Harry Potter-themed baby mobile to hang over the baby’s crib!
We just had to do a Harry Potter-themed nursery. I’m just trying to share it with my fellow Potterheads!
Mary began with making keys to mimic the flying enchanted keys during the challenges Harry, Ron, and Hermione face in Sorcerer’s Stone.
She ordered the keys online and used fishing line and hot glue to hang them from painted wooden circles to create the illusion of them flying. The great part about a DIY project is that you can pick out what design of keys you want, as well as the design and make of the wings.
For the wings, Mary used a sparkly ribbon to mimic how the wings look in the films. Her keys resemble what is represented in the films, but the beautiful thing is that she’s made them her own according to her own ideas of the Harry Potter world. And the fact that she wants to introduce her baby into the world with the ideas that Potter brings—the importance of love, friendship, never giving up hope, etc.—is absolutely the kind of messages we should still be sending to each other. Thank you for sharing your hard work, Mary—we know your baby will absolutely love this gorgeous piece of art!
