Magical Twist to Muggle Quidditch
University College Cork (UCC) Harry Potter Society hosted the first event in the Triwizard Tournament – Muggle Quidditch style. Harry Potter Societies from National University of Ireland (NUI) Galway, Dublin City University (DCU), and Mary Immaculate College, Limerick joined the hosts for the event. Just like the novel, the first task was trying to get the golden egg from the “dragon.” In this case, the dragon was a member of the UCC Harry Potter Society who, instead of shooting fire, shot silly string at the players. DCU captured the golden egg, winning the first task. Learn more about the task here.
DCU will be hosting the second task of the tournament. UCC founding member Ellen McCarthy talks of defeat and of the upcoming task.
Ah, well. One of our lads nearly got in there, but it was DCU in the end. But the next round will be underwater, and two of our lads are lifeguards, so hopefully we’ll have an advantage.
No Triwizard Tournament is complete without a Yule Ball, and this is no exception. On top of hosting the first task, UCC also hosted the ball, where the players traded in their Quidditch robes for dress robes.
