Recipes for the Perfect “Potter” Thanksgiving
Are you thinking of trying something new for this year’s Thanksgiving tradition? With inspiration from some outside sources (like my favorite cookbook, The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook by Dinah Bucholz), it’s easy to round up ideas to create the perfect Harry Potter-themed Thanksgiving feast! Here are some suggestions to get those juicy ideas flowing just in time for the holiday:
A roast turkey, just like the one Harry drooled over during his first Hogwarts feast, would be perfect as the main course. If you prefer a vegetarian alternative, I definitely suggest Molly Weasley’s brussel sprouts with chestnuts recipe, which can be found in Bucholz’s book.
If turkey is more appealing, you certainly cannot go wrong pairing it with cranberry sauce and gravy, which are always abundant in the Great Hall. If you’re up to the culinary challenge, try baking some rolls from scratch that are good enough to compare to Kreature’s delicious hot rolls. Fire up some roasted rosemary potatoes, or boil some with a touch of salt, and everyone will be stuffing their faces full like they’ve just been Sorted into their favorite House.
Of course, if you have a sweet tooth like Harry, you simply cannot forgo dessert. Treacle tart is a must have, considering it’s Harry’s favorite, but it’s definitely not Thanksgiving without a little pumpkin added somewhere. A great pumpkin pasty recipe can be found on Bucholz’s website if you’re looking for a more seasonal treat.
For extra inspiration, check out our fabulous Rosmerta’s Recipes section, where you will find a whole host of recipes, including multiple pumpkin juice blends perfect for concocting a signature Thanksgiving beverage. Or get creative and try your own recipes. Your guests will be so grateful for such a grand Potter Thanksgiving that they won’t want to leave!
As far as we know, Harry Potter is set in the UK, so I don’t see the point of talking about Thanksgiving. Otherwise, I would like to hear about more traditional holidays of around the world, as the Chinese New Year or the Spanish festival of the Three Magic Kings.
Hugs and butterfly kisses,
your Draco.
