Steven Spielberg to Present John Williams with AFI Award
Director Steven Spielberg is due to present composer John Williams with the prestigious AFI Lifetime Achievement Award next month. Spielberg and Williams have worked together for over 40 years, and earlier in the year, Williams spoke about their working relationship.
The AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, which we first posted about back in October of last year, will be presented to Williams at a private gala tribute on June 9 in Los Angeles. Williams is the first composer to receive the honor. Previous recipients include Morgan Freeman and George Lucas.
AFI states that the selection criteria for the award is as follows:
The recipient should be one whose talent has in a fundamental way advanced the film art; whose accomplishment has been acknowledged by scholars, critics, professional peers and the general public; and whose work has stood the test of time.
A special show, AFI Lifetime Achievement Award: A Tribute to John Williams will air on TNT on June 15.

A huge congratulations to John Williams – a very well-deserved award!
