Five Times Daniel Radcliffe Proved That He’s Basically Luna Lovegood in Real Life
Daniel Radcliffe has a spectrum of diverse roles to his credit since Harry Potter. While his co-stars Emma Watson and Rupert Grint turned out to be very much like the respective roles they portrayed in Potter, Dan never quite fit into the Harry Potter mold. Taking a look back at some of his recent work and interviews, we realized why.
He may not have turned out exactly like the Boy Who Lived, but he does have a lot in common with another Harry Potter character. Daniel Radcliffe is more like Luna Lovegood in real life than Harry Potter himself. You may not see it immediately – we didn’t either – so allow us to demonstrate. Take a look at these five times when Daniel Radcliffe proved that he’s every bit as wonderful as Luna Lovegood in real life!
1. When he was just as quirky.
Luna is known as the “Queen of Quirks,” a trait she shares with Dan. While many actors may chase big-budget films and epic franchises to maintain their image after a role like Harry Potter, Dan made a bee-line for some incredibly quirky indie flicks and theater dramas. From Horns to his newest film, Swiss Army Man, it’s no secret that he has an affinity for unusual roles. If his selection of work wasn’t telling enough, this article will tell you that Dan is a quirky Murakami-reading, tea-making, and cap-collecting kind of guy.
2. When he wasn’t the most social person.
His absence from social media – except for his semi-regular Google+ account – is blatant proof of this. While he’s not a recluse, the actor does prefer to keep his personal life quite private and doesn’t choose to be overtly social in the public eye. In a similar way, Luna Lovegood isn’t very extroverted either. However, she does have a small circle of friends she considers close.
3. When we glimpsed his wonderfully strange sense of humor.
From suggesting a scene in Victor Frankenstein with James McAvoy where pus-sucking was involved to pranking the paparazzi, Dan’s humor is a combination of hilarious and strange, like someone else we know. (If you don’t believe us, here he is hanging out with his own corpse.)
I don’t think you should be an Auror, Harry. The Aurors are a part of the Rotfang Conspiracy. I thought everyone knew that. They’re working from within to bring down the Ministry of Magic using a combination of Dark Magic and gum disease.” – Luna Lovegood, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
4. When he was described as “weird.”
Throughout her school life at Hogwarts, “Loony” Lovegood was seen as the strange, weird one by her peers. It’s not until she befriends Harry that we see the kind and intelligent sides of her. The same way, Dan has been dubbed “weird” by multiple media publications in the recent years. Needless to mention, the actor is owning the title.
5. When he wasn’t afraid to be himself.
One of the most discerning facets of Luna’s character was simply how unapologetic she was about her personality. Her opinions were unpopular, but they were hers ,and she was proud of them. Just like Daniel Radcliffe, who believes in bold choices and doing what you love, regardless of what people think.
You think I’m weird? I’ll take that.” – Daniel Radcliffe, NME
