Weirdest Character Descriptions from “Chamber of Secrets”
Welcome back, everyone, to our lovely “Weirdest Character Descriptions” article series. Last month, I illustrated five descriptions straight out of Sorcerer’s Stone. For our newest installment, we will take a look at another five literal interpretations of Rowling’s masterful imagery.
I was going to go with watercolor paintings again, but I thought I’d broaden my artistic skills by trying a new medium each time. For Chamber of Secrets, I decided to go with Prismacolor pencils. Now get ready because we’re about to jump right in!
1. The Dursleys
Uncle Vernon was large and neckless, with an enormous black mustache; Aunt Petunia was horse-faced and bony; Dudley was blond, pink, and porky.
2. Dobby
The little creature on the bed had large, bat-like ears and bulging green eyes the size of tennis balls… Harry noticed that it was wearing what looked like an old pillowcase, with rips for arm- and-leg-holes…
Harry, trying to say ‘Shh!’ and look comforting at the same time, ushered Dobby back onto the bed where he sat hiccoughing, looking like a large and very ugly doll.
3. Harry Potter
He jumped the last six steps, landing catlike on the hall carpet, looking around for Dobby.
4. Garden Gnome
It was certainly nothing like Santa Claus. It was small and leathery looking, with a large, knobby, bald head exactly like a potato. Ron held it at arm’s length as it kicked out at him with its horny little feet…
5. Draco Malfoy and Gregory Goyle
People shrieked as splashes of the Swelling Solution hit them. Malfoy got a faceful and his nose began to swell like a balloon; Goyle blundered around, his hands over his eyes, which had expanded to the size of a dinner plate…
There you have it! I certainly hope these brought at least a smile to your face. Stay tuned for more—we will continue next time with descriptions from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban!
