Anthony Boyle’s First Red Carpet a Bit Blinding
Stepping out on the red carpet of the Evening Standard Theatre Awards can be a bit overwhelming for anyone and often does not happen until they’ve gotten a few seasons under their belt.
For Anthony Boyle, nominated in the Emerging Talent category for his portrayal of Scorpius Malfoy in the wildly popular London West End play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it was “a bit mad, a bit strange.” Who could blame him for being overwhelmed? After all, he only graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama this year!
Interviewed by MSN (and trying to see clearly again after all the camera flashes), Anthony spoke of his surprise at the audience reaction at the first performance, comparing it to a rock concert.
They were just so completely committed and stamping their feet, and I had never experienced anything like that before.
Asked if he thinks he’ll ever have that kind of response from a theater crowd again, he is doubtful.
No, I think there’s only one show that could provide that sort of committed audience of fans. I don’t think that Hamlet would provide that sort of hysteria, unless you’re [Benedict] Cumberbatch!
With eight performances a week (four each of Part One and Part Two), being tired is a given.
I sleep a lot; I sleep a lot, but it’s good because the adrenaline you get from the fans, the audience, fills you with a bit of energy.
If you would like to provide some energy to the cast by attending a performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, you may be in luck. Tickets are sold out to December 2017, but a new block of tickets will go on sale November 22, 2016, for December 2017 up to February 2018. After all, it did just win Best Play at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards!
