USQ Midwest Regional Championship Recap
This weekend, 13 teams from the Midwest competed for five spots in the US Quidditch Cup 10 and the title of Midwest Regional Champions. The two teams that competed in the championship match qualified for USQC 10, as well as the top three teams in the consolidation bracket. It was a very exciting weekend that I can personally attest to – since I was in attendance!
Day 1
On the first day, we saw Kansas Quidditch, Mizzou Quidditch, and TC Frost go undefeated. They all played some spectacular games, with Kansas shutting out Southern Illinois 210*–0 in their second match of the tournament. TC Frost narrowly defeated Chicago United in the afternoon with an overtime win, 120–90 with no Snitch snatch.
Day 2
Tension was in the air on Day 2 since the matches being played would determine who would be heading to Kissimmee, Florida, for USQC 10. Kansas and Mizzou continued Day 2 undefeated once again, landing spots in the championship match against one another, as well as guaranteeing both teams a spot in USQC 10. TC Frost and Minnesota Quidditch played each other twice in an effort to advance their teams, with both games ending with Minnesota winning in overtime, securing their spot at USQC 10.
Illinois State defeated Marquette University, sending them to Florida and Marquette to compete against TC Frost for the last spot. Following a thrilling yet exhausting game with two illegal Snitch snatches, Marquette pulled off the win 120*–100.
After the consolidation finals was the championship match. Kansas played against Mizzou for the title of Midwest Regional Champions for 2016. Mizzou won 190*–110 with a Snitch snatch at 26 minutes and 6 seconds, earning their first Regional title.
