“Cursed Child” Nominated for 11 WhatsOnStage Awards!
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has already been nominated for – and won – several theater awards, and so with the announcement of the WhatsOnStage Awards, it’s no surprise to see the play cropping up time and time again. In fact, the play leads the nominations, with a total of 11 across different categories.
Jamie Parker (Harry Potter) is nominated for Best Actor in a Play, alongside Potter alumni Sir Kenneth Branagh (Professor Gilderoy Lockhart), for his role in The Entertainer, and Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort) in Richard III. Anthony Boyle (Scorpius Malfoy) and Paul Thornley (Ron Weasley) are up against each other for Best Supporting Actor, while Noma Dumezweni (Hermione Granger) and Poppy Miller (Ginny Potter) are both nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
Cursed Child is also nominated for Best New Play, Best Direction (John Tiffany), Best Costume Design (Katrina Lindsay), Best Set Design (Christine Jones), Best Lighting Design (Neil Austin), and Best Video Design (Finn Ross and Ash Woodward).
Sonia Friedman, the producer for Cursed Child, also sees another two of her shows nominated, Dreamgirls and Funny Girl.
Additionally, Potter alumna Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy) is nominated for Best Actress for her role in The Deep Blue Sea, which is also nominated for Best Revival.
Voting is open to the public and will be open until January 31, 2017, so make sure to get your vote in now! The awards ceremony will take place on February 19, 2017, at the Prince of Wales Theatre, London, and you can buy tickets to the event here.
Both Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint have previously triumphed at the WhatsOnStage Awards, so here’s hoping that we see the same successes for Cursed Child and our Potter alumni!
