New Year’s Resolutions for “Potter” Fans
Welcome to 2017! With the new year comes new opportunities, a fresh start, and New Year’s resolutions. But sometimes it can be hard to think of a resolution. So if you’re racking your brain for one, here are ten possible resolutions for Harry Potter fans.
1) Watch all the Harry Potter movies in just one day.
Now you may be wondering if that’s possible. After all, there are a lot of movies. But if you add up the time, it comes to just barely over 20 hours. So while you might feel pretty tired afterward, it is possible. And besides, it would be worth it.
2) Make all your friends and family take the Pottermore Sorting quiz.
This means all your friends and family. Yes, even the ones who don’t know anything about Harry Potter. In fact, it’s the perfect way to introduce them to the series and get them interested in the subject. Once they’ve gotten their results, just causally mention a few interesting facts about their House. Their curiosity will do the rest.
3) Replicate Luna’s lion hat.
Luna’s lion hat is, perhaps, the best piece of fan merchandise ever. So you need to make it. But simply making a lion hat isn’t enough; it needs to have all the features. How you choose to go about making it roar is up to you; just make sure that it’s awesome.
4) Join a Quidditch team.
Getting into shape is a popular New Year’s resolution, and what better way is there to get into shape besides Quidditch? You get to fly through the air, swooping and diving, pulling all sorts of death-defying stunts. Not that anyone’s ever died playing Quidditch, of course.
5) Learn how to ride a hippogriff.
However, if a broomstick just seems a little too fragile to you, try a hippogriff! Just be careful to bow and be respectful when you first approach it. But once you’re on its back, you’re good to go. It’s probably best to start off easy, but by the end of the year, see how many tricks you can do. Doing a barrel roll while riding a hippogriff has to be an amazing adrenaline rush.
6) Free as many house-elves as possible.
SPEW is a very worthy cause, after all. For your New Year’s resolution, why not try making Hermione proud. While getting the clothes necessary to free the house-elves, you’re more than welcome to make your own, but the elves can be freed using store-bought clothes too. So just dig through your old stuff and see what you can find. From there it’s just a matter of cleverly hiding those clothes.
7) Completely de-gnome the garden.
Gnomes are the worst. They make mice and cockroaches look like a blessing. No matter how many of them get thrown out of the garden, they always seem to find their way back. But no more! It’s time to get rid of all of them once and for all. Sure, it will probably take a few attempts, but you have an entire year to manage it. If you want advice on how to go about doing so, check out Gilderoy Lockhart’s Guide to Household Pests.
8) Catch a Crumple-Horned Snorkack.
No one’s ever managed to catch this mysterious creature before, which will make it all the more exciting when you finally do so. It will take a lot of hard work (and most likely several trips to Sweden), but the payoff will undoubtably be worth it. Besides, Sweden is supposed to be a beautiful country.
9) Become an Animagus.
Shape-shifting is an incredible talent, but the actual process of becoming an Animagus is challenging. It’s long and complicated. It involves keeping a leaf under your tongue for a ridiculous amount of time. That doesn’t mean you should give up, though. Be inspired, work hard, and you’ll be transforming in no time.
10) Tickle a sleeping dragon.
Yes, you’ve been told over and over not to. But the new year is the time to be brave, take risks, get out there! So really, why not?
