“Fantastic Beasts” and Wizarding World Alumni Nominated for 2017 Saturn Awards!
As you all probably know by now, Fantastic Beasts won the first Oscar for the wizarding world at last weekend’s Academy Awards. But award season isn’t over yet, and the nominations keep on coming for Beasts, as well as other current and former members of both the Beasts and Potter franchises!
The Saturn Awards announced its nominee list, and Beasts is one of the leading motion picture nominees, raking in seven nominations! The nominations are as follows:
- Best Fantasy Film
- Best Supporting Actor (Dan Fogler)
- Best Production Design (Stuart Craig)
- Best Film Music (James Newton Howard)
- Best Costumes (Colleen Atwood)
- Best Makeup (Nicky Knowles)
- Best Special Effects (Tim Burke, Christian Manz, and David Watkins)
Colin Farrell’s (Percival Graves) film The Lobster is also nominated for Best DVD/BD Release, and Colleen Atwood is nominated in the Best Film Costume Designer category a second time for Alice Through the Looking Glass, which also features many familiar faces, such as the likes of Alan Rickman (Severus Snape), Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Rhys Ifans (Xenophilius Lovegood), Timothy Spall (Peter Pettigrew), Stephen Fry (UK audiobook narrator), and Johnny Depp (Gellert Grindelwald). This was Rickman’s last on-screen performance before his death just over a year ago.
The Legend of Tarzan, directed by David Yates, was nominated for Best Action/Adventure Film Release, while Fear the Walking Dead, which features Frank Dillane (Young Voldemort in Half-Blood Prince), got four nods, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, in which Guy Henry (Pius Thicknesse) plays Grand Moff Tarkin, has a whopping 11 nominations!
The Saturn Awards are presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, and this year’s ceremony will take place on June 28 in Burbank, California.
