“Beauty and the Beast” Leads 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards Nominations
The MTV Movie Awards, as they were formerly known, have expanded their brackets to recognize performances for television and have now become the MTV Movie & TV Awards. The nominations for the inaugural ceremony were announced yesterday, and despite only being in theaters for a mere three weeks, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast has scored an impressive four nominations.
Leading lady Emma Watson is nominated for her role as Belle in the new non-gendered category of Best Actor in a Movie. She will compete against acting heavyweights, such as Hugh Jackman for Logan and James McAvoy for Split.
Beast’s other nominations include Movie of the Year, Best Kiss (Emma Watson and Dan Stephens), and Best Duo (Luke Evans and Josh Gad). Also picking up three nominations is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which featured motion-capture work from Potter alumnus Guy Henry (Pius Thicknesse), for Movie of the Year, Best Hero (Felicity Jones), and Next Generation (Riz Ahmed).
The Batman LEGO Movie, which included voice work from Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort) and Zoë Kravitz (Leta Lestrange), collected a nomination for Best Comedic Performance (Will Arnett). Similarly, Tom Felton’s newest project, The Flash, scored a nomination for Best Hero (Grant Gustin).
