BFI Honors Sir John Hurt
The British Film Institute (BFI) hosted an event in memory of iconic actor Sir John Hurt on June 25. The event, Sir John Hurt: A Celebration, included great moments from Hurt’s film career and memories from some of the people who have worked with the esteemed actor through the years.
At the celebration, BFI announced that they will honor the actor with a film and television season. The season will take place from January 1 to January 31, 2018, at BFI Southbank in London, England. Titles from Hurt’s career will be featured during the season to commemorate his talent and many contributions to film and television.
Hurt, who passed away in January of this year, is remembered by fans, colleagues, and fellow actors alike for his long, rich career on stage and screen. Among his many notable roles are his Oscar-nominated performances as John Merrick in The Elephant Man and Max in Midnight Express as well as popular film roles, including Kane in Alien and master wandmaker Garrick Ollivander in the Harry Potter films.
Sir John Hurt will always be Mr. Ollivander to us, but he has a lot of other wonderful movies to love! What are your favorite John Hurt films? If you’re in London, will you be heading to BFI Southbank for the John Hurt season?
