Calling All Muggles: Fantastic Beasts Open Casting Call!
This could be your chance to star in a Fantastic Beasts film! Pottermore announced today that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has issued an open casting call for its upcoming sequel. They are on the lookout for five young actors to play teenage characters in the 2018 film, including Newt Scamander, Leta Lestrange, Gellert Grindelwald, and Albus Dumbledore.
Casting directors are searching for actors between the ages of 13 and 16 for Newt, Leta, and a new character named Sebastian. For Grindelwald and Dumbledore, they require applicants to be between 16 and 18 years old.
The requirements for the casting call have created new room for speculation about the plot of the second Fantastic Beasts film. Leta was first mentioned in the first movie as being a close friend of Newt’s at school. The age requirements suggest that the movie will show some of their relationship at Hogwarts. As for Grindelwald and Dumbledore, it’s safe to bet that some of their early escapades, first described in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, may be taken to the screen.
As for the casting call, this isn’t the first time the wizarding world has opened its doors to hopeful young actors and actresses. Just recently, Faith Wood-Blagrove beat out hordes of young women to play the role of Modesty Barebone in Fantastic Beasts. Evanna Lynch famously won the role of Luna Lovegood over 15,000 other women after she heard about the open casting call right here on MuggleNet!
According to Pottermore, to apply to audition for one of the currently offered roles you should email casting.prod@wb.uc-ns.com and provide a recent color photograph, a contact telephone number, your home address, and date of birth. If you are under the age of 18 you must ask a parent or guardian to send the application. No acting experience is required, but unfortunately for many international Potter fans, you must be eligible to work in the UK. This means that you have to hold a UK, Irish, or EU passport. The closing date for applications is Tuesday, June 20 at midnight GMT. Filming will take place between August and November 2017.
Best of luck to those who audition! We can’t wait to see one of you up on the big screen!
