Hot off the Press: Guess Which Professors Used to Be an Item!
Remember those absolutely gorgeous House editions of Philosopher’s Stone that Bloomsbury released earlier this month in honor of the 20th anniversary? It turns out they don’t just look cool – they also contain new information! Each book contains some fun extras, like information about common rooms and bios of famous alumni – just the sort of background information one would expect to find in a House edition.
At first glance, it’s all general knowledge, but taking a closer look at the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw editions revealed a new fact: Professors Pomona Sprout and Filius Flitwick were once a couple! We haven’t checked the Gryffindor and Slytherin copies, but since the information is in profiles of Professors Sprout and Flitwick – important figures to Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw – we assume it can only be found in those editions.
This tidbit can be found on page 342 of the Hufflepuff edition:
Professor Sprout had a long-term relationship with fellow teacher Professor Flitwick. Sadly it didn’t work out but they remain friends.
While the two have certainly been the subject of fan fiction, this is the first time the pairing has been introduced in an official capacity. Of course, this just adds more fodder for the ongoing canon debates in the fandom. Is this relationship canonical, or just another piece of ancillary information fans can choose to ignore? Let the discussion begin!
What do you think about this new revelation? We would love to know more about this “long-term” relationship!
