Augmented Reality Goggles May Be Brought to Harry Potter Rides at Universal Studios!
The fictional world of Harry Potter could soon become (augmented) reality since a patent has been filed to improve the visual experience at Universal Studios parks!
That’s right; the world-renowned Universal Studios is working on making your experience even more mind-blowing as it looks to invest in using AR goggles alongside its special effects. This means that fact and fiction will be merged together and part of the wizarding world will appear real as you have a go on the Harry Potter rides!
The Harry Potter rides at Universal so far include Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, where fans can experience different scenes and environments in and around Hogwarts Castle, and Harry Potter and the Escape From Gringotts, where guests can take a ride through the vaults of Gringotts, meet several characters from the Harry Potter films, and face off against Lord Voldemort himself.
The patent states that the goggles will offer various enhanced reality experiences:
An augmented reality experience (AR), a virtual reality experience (VR), a mixed reality experience (MR), or a combination thereof, as part of an attraction, such as a thrill ride, in an amusement park or theme park. In certain embodiments, each ride passenger may be provided with a pair of electronic goggles or eyeglasses to be worn during a cycle of a thrill ride.
There is speculation regarding where the technology will first be experienced, with fingers pointing at the new Super Nintendo World, which opens in Japan in 2020. This is nothing to worry about if you’re unable to nip over to Japan to test them out yourself; the goggles will likely be released in the US Universal parks not long after they are implemented in Japan!
Even though the release of these goggles is not set in stone, the rumors regarding how they could be used alongside the rides mean that we will likely see them (or something similar) at some point in the future.
