“Fantastic Beasts” Among Saturn Award Winners
The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films held the 43rd Annual Saturn Awards ceremony on June 28 in Burbank, California. Fantastic Beasts garnered a lot of attention in the nominations, including Best Fantasy Film and Best Supporting Actor for Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski). Fantastic Beasts got a lot of recognition in technical awards as well, with nominations for Best Production Design (Stuart Craig), Best Film Music (James Newton Howard), Best Makeup (Nicky Knowles), and Best Special Effects (Tim Burke, Christian Man, and David Watkins).
Also nominated were wizarding world alumni who were involved in other films. David Yates’s The Legend of Tarzan was nominated for Best Action/Adventure Film, and Colin Farrell’s (Percival Graves) The Lobster was nominated for Best DVD/BD Release, while Fear the Walking Dead, featuring Frank Dillane (Young Voldemort, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), got four nominations.
Congratulations are in order for Colleen Atwood, who took home the Saturn Award for Best Film Costume for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them! It seems the Saturn Awards Academy was just as taken by Newt Scamander’s dashing blue coat as the rest of us! Atwood made history earlier this year when she won the first Oscar for the wizarding world. Hopefully, Fantastic Beasts will continue its magical winning streak through future films.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was a big winner, taking home awards for Best Science Fiction Film, Best Direction in a Film (Gareth Edwards), and Best Film Visual/Special Effects (John Knoll, Mohen Leo, Hal Hickel, and Neil Corbould). Harry Potter alumnus Guy Henry (Pius Thicknesse) played Grand Moff Tarkin in the film.
