MuggleNet Preview: Library’s Seven-Course “Harry Potter”-Themed Dinner
What could possibly be better than a Harry Potter-inspired dish? Only a full magical seven courses, of course!
Last weekend, MuggleNet was invited by Library, a members-only club in London, to attend its “Decadent 7[-]Course dinner series set in the Extraordinary” – a Harry Potter-themed dinner full of magic and great food.
On arrival at the Library, we were escorted upstairs to the bar and offered an arrival drink of butterbeer or firewhisky. Both drinks are alcoholic and both are delicious! After meeting everyone, we were divided into two groups, taken downstairs to our private dining rooms, and seated at Great Hall-esque tables with our fellow diners. Each room had its own host – or professor – who remained with us throughout the dinner, making sure things ran smoothly.
The dinner was amazing. Each of the seven courses is themed after a different moment in the films. Before each dish was presented, the scene that inspired it was projected onto the dining room’s walls – from the trio’s escape from the Devil’s Snare to the Battle of Hogwarts. The first course was especially magical since we were presented with our very own edible rice paper Hogwarts letter, signed by McGonagall herself.
Gimmicks aside, the food was all delicious with some interesting combinations, such as figs and bay leaf ice cream with goat cheese curd. For an extra charge, you can accompany each course with a glass of wine selected to complement the food. And if you have special dietary requirements, not to worry – they offer vegetarian alternatives.
Adding to the festivities, our professor, who was on hand to introduce each film scene and new dish, was also particularly adept at “Muggle” magic tricks. After dinner, we took advantage of the ticket’s day pass (included in the price) to return to the Library’s bar and carry on into the night. The event is a lot of fun and a great opportunity to meet with fellow Potter fans in a unique setting.
Library’s Decadent 7[-]Course dinner series will be taking place every Friday and Saturday through the end of September, with tickets available to purchase here. Costumes are highly encouraged, and there is a small trivia element to the evening, so be sure to brush up on your Harry Potter knowledge before attending.
