Sir, I Was Wondering… What’s This Week’s “Game of Thrones” News?
Warning! Spoilers for Game of Thrones ahead!
There has been so much crossover between the casts of Game of Thrones and the Harry Potter movies that even quizzes like this one have been created to identify actors that have appeared in both franchises, like Natalia Tena (Osha and Tonks) and Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark and Mrs. Granger). Now, with Season 7 of Game of Thrones having premiered on HBO, there’s plenty of news featuring our favorite Harry Potter actors.
David Bradley, who played Argus Filch in Harry Potter and Walder Frey in Game of Thrones, appeared in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. The actor joked about Maisie Williams replacing him in all of his future appearances when asked about the scene where Arya disguises herself as Frey:
Well, Maisie does a pretty good impression, so she’s here taking my place this morning…She’s great, so I’m getting her to stand in for [me]. Give me the money, and she can do all the work for me.
As Bradley leaves the show, Jim Broadbent (Professor Slughorn) makes his entrance as an archmaester. Broadbent has stated that his character, Archmaester Ebrose, has a significant role in five of the seven episodes, especially regarding the journey of his new student, Sam Tarly. In the books, Archmaester Ebrose tests novices at the Citadel and is an incredibly experienced scholar and teacher. Sounds a bit like a certain Potions Master at Hogwarts!
Tom Hopper has replaced Freddie Stroma (Cormac McLaggen) as Dickon Tarly, Sam’s brother. Though we don’t yet know why the role has been recast, we’re hoping it means we’ll see Freddie in more roles soon!
