Nineteen Years Later: How Did We Get Here?
In just a few weeks, Potter fans all over the world will be celebrating the day Albus Severus Potter boards the Hogwarts Express for the first time – the day otherwise known as Nineteen Years Later. We here at MuggleNet have reserved the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida and planned an absolutely epic Harry Potter party to commemorate the occasion. But before we arrive at September 1, 2017, let’s take a fond look back at the events of the intervening years.
1. Mid-April 1998: Teddy Lupin’s Birth
One night in mid-April, Remus Lupin arrives, windswept and overcome with joy, on the doorstep of Shell Cottage to announce the birth of Dora and his son, Teddy Remus Lupin. It’s a bright moment in the darkness and chaos of war, especially for Harry, whom Lupin names godfather to his son.
2. May 2, 1998: The Battle of Hogwarts
>Not even one month after Teddy’s birth, tragedy befalls the family, with Remus and Tonks are both killed in the Battle of Hogwarts along with Fred Weasley, Colin Creevey, Severus Snape, and 50 others who fought for Harry. But with the downfall of Lord Voldemort for good, the future looks bright for Teddy Lupin and the next generation of young wizards.
3. September 1, 1998: Hermione’s Return to Hogwarts
Hermione, after finding her parents, returns to Hogwarts alongside Ginny and Luna to complete her last year of magical education. Harry, Ron, and Neville, meanwhile, all accept positions as Aurors at the Ministry. Ron quits after two years to join George in running Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, while Neville eventually accepts the position of Herbology professor at Hogwarts upon Professor Sprout’s retirement.
4. The Next Generation Is Born
As the years go by, Teddy Lupin gains quite a large and loving extended family. All in all, the Weasley siblings give Molly and Arthur 12 grandchildren. Harry and Ginny’s first child, James Sirius, is born in 2004. Their second child, Albus Severus, along with Rose Granger-Weasley and Scorpius Malfoy, is born in 2006. Their third child, Lily Luna, and Hermione and Ron’s second child, Hugo, are born in 2008. While Neville and his wife, Hannah, remain childless to our knowledge, Neville is named godfather to Harry’s second son, Albus. Luna, meanwhile, marries Rolf Scamander and has twin sons, Lorcan and Lysander.
5. September 1, 2009: Teddy Starts at Hogwarts
In my mind, on this day, a proud Harry and Ginny accompany Andromeda to take their godson to King’s Cross, where Harry presents Teddy with an album of pictures of his parents, just as Hagrid had given him in his first year. To Headmistress McGonagall’s faint disappointment, Teddy is Sorted into Hufflepuff House like his mother. Teddy is all set to do his parents proud.
6. July 2014: The Quidditch World Cup
Ginny Weasley has been reporting on the events of the tournament all season, and now Harry and the family join her for the finale. Harry takes his children to meet his old friend Viktor Krum. Teddy Lupin seems to disappear quite frequently into shadowy corners with Victoire Weasley. Meanwhile, as Rita Skeeter reports, Hermione is climbing to new heights within the Ministry, Ron is doing well at the joke shop, and Harry is still going strong as an Auror. Well, that’s not exactly what Rita said, but of course, we must take her reporting with a tablespoon of salt.
7. September 1, 2015: James Sirius Starts at Hogwarts
The eldest Potter child began his tenure at Hogwarts two years ago, according to J.K. Rowling. He is Sorted into Gryffindor like his parents, to Head Boy Teddy’s disappointment (but surely Headmistress McGonagall was pleased). James Sirius is definitely set to have a far easier first year at Hogwarts than either of his parents did.
And finally, on September 1 of this year, Albus Severus will join his brother at Hogwarts.
