Potter DIY: Character Skulls
Do you ever think to yourself, “Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter would look so much better with a little less skin“? Look no further! I don’t know about you, but skeletons have always scared the Chocolate Frogs out of me. Here’s a tutorial on how to make Dumbledore and Harry spooktastic, just in time for Halloween! You can apply the same method to other character creations as well! All of the materials below can be purchased from Michael’s or similar craft stores.
What You’ll Need:
- Plastic or Styrofoam skull
- Glue gun and glue sticks
- Gray and black yarn
- A purple foam sheet
- Scissors
- Black and gold pipe cleaners
- Markers and pens for decorating
Dumbledore Skull Directions:
Step 1: Cut several strands of yarn for the character’s hair. Each strand should be about 7–8 inches long. Squeeze the glue onto the skull and lay the yarn strands across the surface (only a small line of glue is needed in the middle to hold the yarn in place).
Step 2: Use the same method to create his beard. Trim the hair to your liking. Use a small piece of gold pipe cleaner (or thread/cord if you have it) to give him a little beard ponytail.
Step 3: Cut out a long rectangle from the foam. The piece should be 8 1/2 inches long and 1 inch wide. Glue the piece to create a cylinder shape. Now, cut a circle out of the foam to glue on top of the cylinder. Twist together three short pieces of gold pipe cleaners and glue the Dumbledore “tassel” on top of the hat. Decorate as you see fit with markers and pens!
Step 4: Twist a black piece of pipe cleaner into the shape of spectacles. Glue the spectacles on and… Alohomora! You’ve unlocked the Dumbledore skull!
Harry Potter Skull Directions:
Step 1: Glue black yarn onto the skull to create hair (see directions above). Trim the yarn to make Harry’s hair messy.
Step 2: Draw a scar on his forehead with a marker.
Step 3: Fashion a pair of round spectacles out of black pipe cleaner and glue them onto Harry’s face. Reparo!
