Let’s Go Back to Hogwarts With a “Harry Potter” Reread
Recently, we posted a thought-provoking article questioning if fandom might beat canon one day. That got me thinking a little bit. I’ve spent more time immersed in the fandom over the past few years than I have spent actually reading the Harry Potter books. They are still a huge part of my life, but I just love fan fiction so much. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to rededicate myself to Harry Potter. Last year, I had some big things happen in my life that caused me to distance myself from Potter a little bit. I want to go back to Hogwarts, and I want you all to come back with me.
Let’s talk about details. I plan to begin reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone on February 1. I hope that you all will join me for this reread. I plan on reading at least one book a month and posting an article about my thoughts after I finish each one. My goal is to finish on September 1 just in time to get the train back to Hogwarts. I’d love if you would send in your photos, thoughts, and comments using the hashtag #MuggleNetGoesBacktoHogwarts. Maybe they’ll get showcased in the article.
Want to start right now? That’s fantastic! I know that I’m super eager to start. I highly recommend listening to Alohomora! during your reread. It is an amazing podcast hosted by some of the coolest people I know. They have detailed discussions on each chapter and come up with some very interesting ideas.
All right, students, the new term begins February 1. I expect all of you to have your books ready and anything else you might need at hand. We will begin this adventure together and will fall into the embrace of Harry and his friends. Let’s look for answers to any questions we might have, and let’s find comfort in the pages that feel like home.
