“Harry Potter” Made Jason Isaacs Less Embarrassed to Be an Actor
Harry Potter has changed all of our lives here at MuggleNet, but it also appears to have had a positive effect on everyone’s favorite evil dad, Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy). The work of an actor can have a powerful effect on their fans, but it seems as though Isaacs wasn’t always comfortable with his profession until his involvement in Potter.
In a recent interview promoting the new animated film Monster Family, Isaacs revealed that there was a point in which he was embarrassed to be an actor. He felt the profession was trivial compared to others who, in his opinion, were involved in more substantial jobs:
I have a brother who is a doctor, for instance, and many other people who[m] I admire are changing things or researching things or working [by] engaging with people who are in need and helping them.
Luckily for fans of Isaacs, this embarrassment seems to have all but disappeared thanks to his role as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films. Through his involvement in the franchise, he was able to meet fans whose lives have been changed by the series and hear their stories.
When you are opposite people to whom it has really meant a lot, it’s humbling and inspiring and it reminds me not to be embarrassed that I’m an actor.
Potter fans will be thrilled to know that the series has had such an effect on those involved and that although Isaacs still feels that acting can be “pretty narcissistic and trivial,” he recognizes the powerful effect it can have on people.
Isaacs can continue to be heard in theaters this month as the voice of Dracula in the family adventure Monster Family, a role he said was “ridiculously good fun” to play. You can watch the trailer below.
