MYTHTERY: How Hard Was It Really for Oliver to Film Fred’s Death Scene?
Mythtery
Oliver Phelps could only do five takes of Fred Weasley’s death scene. Seeing his brother pretending to be dead was emotionally exhausting for him.
Evidence
This myth has been around since the last Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, was released. As we all know, Fred Weasley finds his tragic end in this film and his twin brother George mourns him greatly. The twins who portrayed the iconic duo, James and Oliver Phelps, had to shoot the tragic death scene and have been asked about their experience of it ever since.
Fans and media have shared memes and tweets about the apparently devastating experience the twins had during the shoot.
Let’s go over why this is straight from Umbridge’s desk.
The Phelps twins themselves have addressed this rumor on multiple occasions and have explained that it was, in fact, not at all like that for them.
Oliver commented on this at Emerald City Comic Con in 2016.
It was weird, but it’s one of those things that has taken on a fandom of its own. I’ve seen some really weird things online… I mean, it’s in a picture on the internet, so it must be true, right?
He continues, admitting that it was indeed difficult to film since they are brothers, after all, but also making fun of his brother, stating that “it was the easiest day for James because he fell asleep on set.”

To further debunk this myth, watch Oliver explain it with your own eyes. Here is a clip of Oliver Phelps (George Weasley) addressing this rumor at Sydney Supanova in 2013.
