“Harry Potter” Series Featured in America’s 100 Favorite Novels List
As an integral part of a new PBS series called The Great American Read, PBS has released a list of America’s 100 favorite novels, and everyone’s favorite boy wizard has made the cut. Here at MuggleNet, we love J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series and are excited announce that if it’s your favorite too, you’ll be able to vote for it as America’s best-loved book!
The Harry Potter series has already made it into the upper ranks of some of the best lists. One year, it was voted as No. 6 on a list of the top 100 greatest books for kids. Another list ranks Harry Potter among the best novels of the 20th and 21st centuries.
The Great American Read is an eight-part series that will begin airing on May 22, 2018. Hosted by journalist Meredith Vieira, the show hopes to encourage conversations about reading while also inspiring people to visit their local libraries. The show will start on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at 8:00 p.m. ET with a two-hour premiere before taking a summer reading break. (Yes, you read that right.)
The nation will have a full summer to choose books to read from the list. Voting opens online and on social media after the premiere episode. The show will return in the fall with themed episodes no doubt meant to match up America’s favorite novels, and on Tuesday, October 23, America’s best-loved book will be revealed.
The series will include both celebrities and everyday people discussing how books have affected not just their personal lives but also American pop culture. According to Parade, a few of the celebrities taking part in this series include Diane Lane, George Lopez, Seth Meyers, Junot Díaz, Lauren Graham, John Green, Gayle King, and George R.R. Martin.
