All of the donations from the contest benefit the New 42nd Street’s award-winning, non-profit education program at the New Victory Theater. The program runs the Give a Kid a Seat campaign, which raises money to allow New York City school children and their families a chance to experience a live theatrical performance. Every $35 donated to the campaign grants one child a free seat at a New Victory Theater show. The program has received multiple awards for its work making theater more accessible for the children of New York City and encouraging a love for performance arts at a young age.
The New 42nd Street benefit performance of Cursed Child will take place on May 12 at the Lyric Theatre and all tickets to the show include a tax-deductible donation that will support the New 42nd Street’s education program and youth employment programs. The event will also honor J.K. Rowling with the New Victory Arts Award. Even though Rowling is unable to attend the event, she was very honored to receive the award.
I’m delighted to receive the New Victory Arts Award and join such illustrious company. The Award comes from an organisation [that] has young people’s well-being at its core, a cause I wholeheartedly support, as do my creative collaborators on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. I know that [t]he New 42nd Street does wonderful work supporting young people through theatre. It’s a source of great pride to me, Jack and John that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has brought new people into the theatre, and I hope that this form of storytelling continues to have the power to transform young lives.
For more information or to enter the contest, visit the campaign’s page on Prizeo! There is also an option available to mail in a free entry form without a donation. You can send in as many times as you like, but you can only include one form per envelope.
If you are not lucky enough to win tickets to the benefit performance, you can still purchase tickets to the show to support the cause on the New Victory Theater’s website.
