Castium Revelio: Fan Fiction to Film!
It’s time for our weekly edition of MuggleNet’s Casting News! As always, we’re bringing you the latest updates on the newest projects from our wizarding world alumni, so let’s find out what they have in store for us! Castium Revelio!
First, Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort) is reportedly joining John Michael McDonagh’s newest film, The Forgiven. Deadline Hollywood reported the news:
‘The English Patient’ star Fiennes and ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ star Hall would lead McDonagh’s adaptation of the well-received novel by Lawrence Osborne, about the dramatic fallout following a random accident on the lives of an English couple (Fiennes and Hall), their friends and the local Moroccans who all converge on a luxurious desert villa during a decadent weekend-long party. Production is slated to start early next year in Morocco.
As previously reported, Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) will be portraying Princess Margaret in the Netflix series The Crown. The actress spoke about her fears related to the role, saying that she is “terrified” of not doing well.
I’m not sure which I’m more terrified about – doing justice to the real Princess Margaret or following in the shoes of Vanessa Kirby. The only thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be shorter than Vanessa.
The third season of The Crown will be released on Netflix next year.
Gary Oldman (Sirius Black) is set to star in the crime thriller The Bayou, according to a report from Deadline Hollywood. Actor Dylan O’Brien will also star.
In the movie, ‘The Bayou’ is where an aging and colorfully immoral mob hit man named Tickie Bordeaux (Oldman) hides his victims. Tickie is mentoring dangerous young Ceto (O’Brien), who lost his kid sister to the crime underworld and now expresses himself on his blues harmonica. They work for crime boss Emmeline, who operates out of a French Quarter gentleman’s club, along with her right hand, Stella the Madame.
Ceto is rising fast, until he secretly spares a 16-year-old runaway named Billie during a killing. The girl follows Ceto and asks for help, because she has nobody else. They develop a brother/sister-type relationship, that ultimately sets Ceto on a violent collision course with his bosses.
The film is scheduled to begin shooting in June in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein) has joined the cast of Amundsen, “a biopic of the Arctic explorer Roald Amundsen directed by Espen Sandberg,” writes Variety.
Pål Sverre Hagen (‘Kon-Tiki’) will star as Amundsen, who was the first man to reach both the South and the North Poles. Christian Rubeck (‘What Happened to Monday’) will play Roald’s brother. Waterston […] will portray Roald’s last love, who was known as Bess Magids.
The film is expected to have its theatrical release in early 2019.
Jude Law (Albus Dumbledore, Fantastic Beasts) will be reprising his role as Dr. John Watson in Sherlock Holmes 3, alongside Robert Downey Jr. in the titular role. As noted by Entertainment Weekly, the latest film in the Sherlock Holmes series is coming years after the previous installment.
The last film in the franchise, ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’, was released seven years ago. Both of the previous films were directed by Guy Ritchie, but there’s no director confirmed yet on this one.
Sherlock Holmes 3 is scheduled for release on December 25, 2020.
Ronan Raftery (Langdon Shaw, Fantastic Beasts) has joined the cast of the television adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s The Rook, according to a report from the Hollywood Reporter. The series, which will be broadcast on Starz, will also be available on demand in various markets from Liberty Global. A description of the series was also provided:
‘The Rook’ tells the story of a young woman who wakes up in a London park suffering total amnesia — and surrounded by dead bodies, all wearing latex gloves. Pursued by shadowy paranormal adversaries and grappling with peculiar ‘abilities’ of her own, she must fight to uncover her past and resume her position at the head of Britain’s most secret (supernatural) service, the Checquy … before the traitors who stole her memory can finish what they started.
Raftery will be playing the role of Robert Gestalt.
Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) and Natalia Tena (Nymphadora Tonks) will be costarring in the new YouTube Red series Origin, with newcomer Sen Mitsuji joining them. Described by Deadline Hollywood as a ”sci-fi thriller,” some additional details about Origin’s plot and characters were made available:
Created, written and exec produced by Mika Watkins, the 10-episode series follows a group of strangers who find themselves stranded on a spacecraft bound for a distant planet. The abandoned passengers must work together for survival, but quickly realize that one of them is far from who they claim to be. Tena will play Lana, Felton is Logan, Mitsuji is Shun.
Resilient, tough and great in a crisis, Lana (Tena) quickly becomes a kind of captain to the passengers of Origin. Shun (Mitsuji) also quickly emerges as a natural leader among the passengers, due to his cool head and razor sharp reflexes. Like his ‘Harry Potter’ character Draco Malfoy, Felton again is playing the group’s chief antagonist. His Logan is an angry young man, who is as much of a threat to himself, as he is to those around him.
Origin is currently shooting in South Africa and is expected to be released on YouTube Red later this year.
Hero Fiennes-Tiffin (11-year-old Tom Riddle, Half-Blood Prince) has been cast as Hardin Scott in the film adaptation of the One Direction fan fiction After, opposite Julia Goldani Telles! Just Jared Jr. reported the news:
Based on Anna Todd’s hit One Direction fanfiction Wattpad series, ‘After’ centers on Tessa, a first year university student who opens up her world after meeting the dark and mysterious Hardin Scott.
Filming is scheduled to begin next month in Boston.
Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone) will play the young Salvador Dalí in an upcoming biopic about the Spanish surrealist, titled Dali Land, writes Deadline Hollywood. Frank Dillane (16-year-old Tom Riddle, Half-Blood Prince) will play one of the film’s starring roles, while the older version of Dalí will be played by Ben Kingsley.
Set in New York and Spain in 1973, the story is told through the eyes of James (Dillane), a young gallery assistant who helps Dalí prepare for a big show. While James hopes to learn some of the secrets of great art from one of the 20th century’s greatest painters, he instead falls down a rabbit hole of glittering parties, personal battles, and an art world awash with money and drama. Manville will play Dali’s domineering wife, and Roth the painter’s right-hand man.
Filming will take place in Canada and Spain in November and December.
Emma Thompson (Professor Trelawney) and Stephen Fry, the narrator of the UK versions of the Harry Potter audiobooks, have both joined the voice cast of Laika’s newest animated film, Missing Link, according to Variety.
Laika president-CEO Travis Knight, who will meet with foreign distributors at Cannes, describes ‘Missing Link’ as achieving ‘something we’ve never tried before: a raucous comedy entwined with a swashbuckling epic, underscoring the universal need to find belonging.’
Created with 110 sets and 65 unique locations, ‘Missing Link’ turns on the charismatic Sir Lionel Frost (Jackman) who sets out to prove the existence of a legendary creature the Missing Link (Galifianakis), a soulful beast who, as the last of his kind, is rather lonely.
Fry is also lending his voice to Destiny 2: Warmind, an expansion of the online multiplayer game Destiny 2. PCGamesN reported the news.
Fry […] voices the public address AI at the Clovis Bray facilities on Mars. Players visit there during the Will of the Thousands strike mission, where they can hear the actor offer helpful advice and announcements. Bungie confirmed his appearance to PC Gamer.
Destiny 2: Warmind is live now.
Both Adrian Rawlins (James Potter) and Lee Ingleby (Stan Shunpike) can be seen in the new four-part ITV drama series Innocent. The Sun provided more information on the series.
The series revolves around David [Collins] (Lee Ingleby), who was sent to jail for the murder of his wife Tara.
He protests his innocence, but the only person who believes him is brother Phil (Daniel Ryan).
Tara’s childless sister Alice is convinced he is guilty.
She and her husband Rob (Adrian Rowlins) have been raising David’s children with the money from David’s estate and live a comfortable lifestyle.
David and Phil campaign for his release and David is acquitted on a technicality, but suspicion still hangs over him.
Innocent begins airing at 9:00 p.m. on ITV on Monday, May 14. The series premiered on the streaming service Sundance Now earlier this year.
