In this edition of Casting News, we have our magical alumni participating in jewelry heists, donning secret identities, and more! Castium Revelio!
The Irish Independent reports Jim Broadbent (Professor Slughorn) and Sir Michael Gambon (Professor Dumbledore) will star alongside Sir Michael Caine, Tom Courtenay, Ray Winstone, Paul Whitehouse, and Charlie Cox in the upcoming movie King of Thieves. Directed by James Marsh, the King of Thieves plot centers around the famous 2015 jewelry robbery from Hatton Garden Safe Deposit in London. Check out the trailer below, but be warned that the language may not be appropriate for all viewers. Look for King of Thieves in theaters starting September 14.
Alfonso Cuarón, director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, will be among those presenting at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Annual Grants banquet on August 9. BroadwayWorld quotes HFPA's president, Meher Tatna.

Kelly Macdonald (Grey Lady) is "in final negotiations to lead cast in long-awaited movie Dirt Music," according to Deadline. The novel the movie is based on tells the story of an illicit romance and a chase through brutal Australian terrain once the affair is discovered. Assuming all goes well, Macdonald will costar alongside Mudbound's Garrett Hedlund.
Fiona Shaw (Petunia Dursley) stars as Abby Borden in the upcoming movie Lizzie, a thriller based on the 1892 murders of the Borden family. Check out the trailer here, and look for Lizzie in theaters September 14.
Collin Farrell (Percival Graves) was cast as a protagonist in the new movie War Pigs. According to Den of Geek, "War Pigs focuses on two vets out with a bloodlust for a gang of criminals who killed one of their comrades and then, worse, stole the drug money that was rightfully theirs." Farrell will costar alongside Mel Gibson, with Farrell playing "Drex" and Gibson playing "Pastor."
Found on We Got This Covered, a tiny bit of Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone) can be seen in the below image showing a gathering of DC superheroes. It's unclear what project the cast is working on in the still, but we'll be looking to see if any more images pop up across the internet!
The cast of Jack Thorne's (playwright of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) new adaptation of Philip Pullman's fantasy series His Dark Materials now includes Lin-Manuel Miranda, James McAvoy, and Ruth Wilson. Variety reports that Oscar winner Tom Hooper is to direct the first two episodes of the eight-part series.
Executive producer and Bad Wolf founder Jane Tranter commented on the project.
The caliber of our cast and directors is a testament to the brilliance of Jack Thorne’s scripts and also the sheer bravura, depth and imagination of Philip Pullman’s original novels. Our determination is to sound every note of the books in a series that will fully explore the many worlds and concepts in Philip’s work.
Rory Kinnear, who played Barry Fairbrother in the miniseries of The Casual Vacancy, stars in the upcoming movie Peterloo, a film about the 1819 Peterloo Massacre. Check out the teaser trailer here.
