Castium Revelio: Nightmares and Film Fests
by Alyssa Scott · September 1, 2018
Get ready, witches and wizards! The Harry Potter alumni have been busy with some great projects. Let’s go; Castium Revelio!
The Lodgers, starring David Bradley (Argus Filch), premiered on August 30! The new Netflix thriller set in 1920s rural Ireland also stars Eugene Simon from Game of Thrones, Bill Milner, Charlotte Vega, and Moe Dunford. Check out the trailer below!
New character posters for King of Thieves have been released! See Jim Broadbent (Professor Slughorn) and Sir Michael Gambon (Professor Dumbledore) on their posters here.
John Cleese (Nearly Headless Nick) will be joining the new animated film Elliot: The Littlest Reindeer, but it's currently unknown whom he'll be voicing. What we do know is that the film includes a major dilemma: Blitzen is retiring, and Elliot, a miniature horse, has "three days to fulfill his lifelong dream of earning a spot on Santa's sleigh during North Pole tryouts." Other voice actors will include Josh Hutcherson, Samantha Bee, Martin Short, Jeff Dunham, and Morena Baccarin.
Forbes is reporting that the BFI London Film Festival will include films and appearances involving Harry Potter alumni! Roma is directed by Alfonso Cuarón (director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban); The White Crow is directed by and features Ralph Fiennes, and Colette features Fiona Shaw (Petunia Dursley)! The event will also include a Screen Talk with Cuarón, and Fiennes is set to attend the event either at a special presentation or a screening of The White Crow.
The Telluride Film Festival is also screening Fiennes' The White Crow; Cuarón's Roma will also be screened, and Cuarón is a festival honoree!
Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick) produces the musical Eugenius!, which just began a new run at the Other Palace in London for a limited time! BroadwayWorld UK reported that the show launched its new limited run with an acoustic media night, and you can check out the video coverage of it below!
Eugenius! will run at the Other Palace until October 7.
Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley) has been having nightmares about leaking information on the new Star Wars movies! He will appear as General Armitage Hux in all three of the new episodes, and according to Syfy, he’s afraid of revealing spoilers in his sleep and being kicked out of the cast.
After explaining that he was terrified of forgetting his technobabble-filled lines on set, the actor described the odd state he's found himself in — one that other blockbuster franchises like the MCU have hoped to circumvent by not giving their actors complete or accurate scripts. ’I made the terrible mistake of reading the script,’ Gleeson said of his Star Wars screenplay, ’so I know everything.’
We certainly hope the nightmares ease up, Domhnall!
Katie Leung (Cho Chang) will star in the ITV and Amazon Prime series Strangers as Lau Chen. The thriller will be released in late 2018 and "will trace the life of a man caught up in something hideous when he travels to Hong Kong following his wife's sudden unexpected [sic] death." See the trailer here.
Bill Nighy (Rufus Scrimgeour) is appearing in the film Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, which will also star Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith, Kathryn Newman, Ken Watanabe, Suki Waterhouse, and Chris Geere. Check out the film's recently revealed logo in this tweet from the film’s official Twitter account!
Dame Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall) is featured in the new documentary Tea with the Dames, alongside Dame Judi Dench, Dame Eileen Atkins, and Dame Joan Plowright. People writes that the documentary about their lives, careers, husbands, and Hollywood will be released into theaters on September 21, 2018. You can watch the trailer below!
Imelda Staunton (Professor Umbridge) has joined the cast of the upcoming Downton Abbey movie, along with Geraldine James, Simon Jones, David Haig, Tuppence Middleton, Kate Phillips, and Stephen Campbell Moore. The new additions will join some of the series’ original cast members for the film, on which principal photography has now begun. Among those returning for the film is Dame Maggie Smith, who will be reprising her role as the Dowager Countess.
Natalia Tena (Nymphadora Tonks) stars in Anchor and Hope, which will be released into theaters by Wolfe Releasing in New York and Los Angeles on November 16, 2018. When Tena's character, Kat, is presented an ultimatum by Oona Chaplin's Eva to have a child, her entire lifestyle is at risk. When Kat's best friend, Roger, joins the mix and the three toy with having the baby together, Kat is backed into a corner and has to say yes. The following "expectations of intimacy and responsibility put a heavy strain on their relationship that threatens to rip the three apart."
Emma Thompson (Professor Trelawney) is playing the part of the prime minister in Johnny English Strikes Again, premiering October 26, 2018. Check out the trailer for the new spy movie here.
Jude Law (Albus Dumbledore) spoke to Entertainment Weekly about Sherlock Holmes 3.
We hope to propel the story forward. As always, the essence of the story is their codependency. We’re going to examine — since it’s been several years since we’ve seen them — we’re going to play up the fact that they haven’t seen each other for a long time either.
There's no word yet on who's directing, but we do know that Chris Brancato is writing the script and that Jared Harris, who plays Professor Moriarty, is probably not going to return.
The first trailer for Law's new film, Vox Lux, has debuted online. Law stars as the manager of a pair of sisters who launch a musical career after surviving a "seismic, violent tragedy" and compose and perform a song about their experience. Check it out below!
Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone) is going on tour with his band, Sons of an Illustrious Father. In June, the band self-released an album, Deus Sex Machina: Or, Moving Slowly Behind Nikola Tesla.
Under the Radar quoted a press release.
Theirs is a sound that leans back towards the outsiderdom and recklessness in music that paved the way for the likes of David Bowie, Iggy Pop, X-Ray Spex, Bikini Kill, and so many more.
You can listen to their songs “When Things Fall Apart” and “Extraordinary Rendition” on YouTube.
As we previously covered, Noma Dumezweni (Hermione Granger) is starring in Black Earth Rising, and now a premiere date has been set! Tune into the political thriller on September 10, 2018, at 9:00 p.m. on BBC Two!
