J.K. Rowling Tops the List of Best Female Financial Role Models
Every year, the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association coordinates a Good Money Week campaign to promote sustainable, responsible, and ethical finance. Focused this year on female economic empowerment, the campaign administered a public poll to determine who is considered the best female financial role model. Over 2,000 people from across the United Kingdom completed the survey, and our beloved J.K. Rowling topped the list!
Rowling is certainly no stranger to awards and honors of all types, and it makes sense that she’d come to mind as a role model. Besides Rowling, Dragons’ Den investor Deborah Meaden tied for second place in the poll with businesswoman, politician, and TV personality Karren Brady. Oprah Winfrey came in third place.
Unfortunately, the poll also revealed that 20% of people could not identify a female financial role model.
Congratulations @jk_rowling ! You have been voted best female financial role model in our #GMW18 poll. Sadly, 20% of people can't name ANY good #female financial role model. Would you agree that this needs to change? https://t.co/OkdAcCNba2 #whofundtheworld #financialempowerment

Good Money Week campaign director Charlene Cranny was disappointed by the lack of awareness of females in economics and finance.
It is a shame and a disservice to many of the amazing women doing good things with their money that many of us don’t think there are any good female financial role models in the public eye… Something clearly needs to change here. There are plenty of good financial female role models all around us, and we need to shine more of a light on their amazing work.
We’re glad that Rowling can be a positive role model for female economic empowerment. Can you think of any female financial role models?
