“Entertainment Weekly” to Feature “Crimes of Grindelwald”
Though we’ve had our share of interviews with the full cast of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, one particular member has remained absent. Johnny Depp had yet to speak about his role as Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald – until now. The actor gave his first interview in this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly, which is entirely devoted to Fantastic Beasts.
This week’s issue features interviews with the whole cast as they hint at their characters’ intertwined backstories without spoiling the plot. Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander) can attest to the twisted narrative we have to look forward to:
The script is labyrinthian. It’s like you’re going down this maze and Jo is weaving the stories together with such intricacy. Along the way these connections to Harry Potter and secrets are falling at your feet. […] I got to the end and my jaw dropped. There was one thing I didn’t see coming.
Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski) is also eager to promote the darker tone of this movie, comparing it to legendary sequels like The Empire Strikes Back:
The first movie is so positive. It’s sweet and lovely. But this time everybody is really put under fire. People are gonna see this like a 100 times just to get everything. They’re going to be going nuts that they have to wait for the next one.
Depp’s interview isn’t the only thing to look forward to in this issue. J.K. Rowling will reveal some brand-new character details, while former Harry Potter directors share their favorite shots from each of the eight films and recount the filming of the first Quidditch match. To top it all off, this issue will feature a tribute to Alan Rickman from his castmates.
You can watch the interview on Entertainment Weekly‘s website and find the full issue at any newsstand on Friday.
