From Bowtruckle to Zouwu, Meet the Creatures of “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”
When it comes to Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, we’re certainly looking forward to seeing people like young Dumbledore, Nagini, and Grindelwald himself. The trailers and posters have gotten us excited to learn about new and old characters. However, it wouldn’t be Fantastic Beasts without the beasts. In a recently released featurette from Warner Bros., Eddie Redmayne and J.K. Rowling give us a sneak peek of the creatures we’ll see in the film.
Some familiar faces from the first Fantastic Beasts will be popping up again in Crimes of Grindelwald, such as Pickett the Bowtruckle. Redmayne says that he has a “soft spot” for Pickett because he’s “so small and twig-like and sweet.”
Of course, the Niffler will also be back, bringing along those adorable baby Nifflers who have already stolen our hearts. It sounds like the Nifflers will have a pretty big role in this next movie. Redmayne cryptically reveals that they “cause a bit of havoc for Newt, but also help in so many ways.”
As for the new beasts, we’ll get to meet Rowling’s favorite of Newt’s creatures: the kelpie. In the featurette, we see that the kelpie is a large, aquatic creature. According to Rowling, “The only way to tame it is to get a bridle on it,” so we watch Newt taming it.
Finally, we have the zouwu, which is described by Redmayne as “a Chinese creature who’s pretty dumbfounding and can travel a thousand miles in a day.” The featurette doesn’t tell us anything about how the zouwu will come into the story, though Rowling says that “it really does take a Newt Scamander to contain and look after that beast.”
Regarding his character, Redmayne also says that Newt is “true to himself.” With that, we can be sure Newt will maintain a deep bond with his animals in Crimes of Grindelwald. Do you enjoy seeing all the beasts, or do you have a particular favorite? Are there any creatures not mentioned here you hope to see in the movie? Check out the new featurette below!
