Tom Felton Boards a Spaceship, Meets the Malfoys, Avoids Adoption
We Potter fans all know Tom Felton as the pure-blood Slytherin schoolboy Draco Malfoy, but after seven years since the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, he continues to make a name for himself in front of the camera. Felton is now the star of Origin, YouTube Premium’s original sci-fi space series, also featuring Natalia Tena (Nymphadora Tonks), which he describes as “Lost meets Aliens.”
It’s pretty jumpy! People will be like ‘whoa!’ I’m not a fan of [‘]binge-worthy[‘ -] it makes it sound like a sugary drug [-] but every episode is going to leave you wanting a whole lot more.
Despite the conclusion of the Harry Potter film series and his work on other productions, Felton still remains an active figure in the Harry Potter fandom. He attended a performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in London’s West End this past August and met the Malfoy family.
I went behind the curtain at the end to meet the Malfoys – it was fun! They were fantastic! It was bizarre to see Draco as an older man and to see young Scorpius, but everything – the stage production, the acting – it was brilliant!
As a Potter fan himself, Felton takes his Hogwarts House seriously and trusts that the Sorting Hat would place him into Slytherin, just like Draco, because they “get the most done” and “have the most freedom.” However, after giving it more thought, he finds that he may have the heart of a lion and a Slytherin-Gryffindor combo suits him.
Though Felton remains delighted to engage with fans of his Potter days, he admits that his proud affiliation with Draco Malfoy has put him in some sticky situations. Fans frequently forget to differentiate him from his character.
I’ve [had] some angry Americans tell me ‘Leave Harry Potter alone, man! What did he ever do to you?’ but are deadly serious in how they deliver it. They seem to think I had some kind of influence on Rowling’s writing!
Felton also shared that he has received some odd fan mail, particularly letters from a man expressing his wish to adopt him as his son.
I’ve got some very strange letters. One man wanted to adopt me. He had changed his name legally to Lucius Malfoy and wanted me to change my name to Draco Malfoy and to legally adopt me. I declined!
