by Aimee Krenz · December 20, 2018
A new year is almost upon us, and this means we are looking at all the projects we can expect to see in 2019 and beyond. Check out this week’s special super-sized edition of Castium Revelio!
First, if you are anything like us, we know you can’t get enough of Jude Law as YUMbledore – um, we mean DumbleDAMN – er, sorry, we mean, DUMBLEDORE. While the following isn’t Law as Dumbledore, we still enjoyed this Wired Autocomplete interview with Law and his Vox Lux costar, Natalie Portman, and since it is the season of giving, we are sharing it with you. You’re welcome.
Now that we’ve given you a wee taste, why not click below and see what the rest of the cast and crew have been up to? Go on, you know you want to!

Dame Julie Walters (Molly Weasley) can now be seen in the new Mary Poppins Returns, but there's another film that we are excited to see in 2019 that features her voice talent. Walters has joined the cast of The Queen's Corgi, taking a step up from her dame title to try her hand at tackling the role of the Queen! Check out a teaser trailer from the animated film below. The film is slated for a July 5, 2019, release in the UK.
The film tells the story of Rex, the Queen’s Top Dog — a spoilt little corgi who lives a life of luxury in Buckingham Palace. But when Rex winds up in a London Dog’s Home, surrounded by tough strays, he must learn that to become a true Top Dog.
This isn't Walters' first attempted at portraying royalty, however. She has also voiced the Queen for the television special Master Moley. Walters is excited for fans to hear her in this role and to experience the special for themselves:
It’s going to be fantastic. People are going to love 'Master Moley', and I have loved doing it.
Here's a brief synopsis of the special, which is currently in production:
The show will follow the adventures of a mole who hopes to be chosen as the keeper of a magic book which will bring peace between humans and moles.
Master Moley also stars the voice talent of another Potter fan favorite, Warwick Davis (Filius Flitwick/Griphook), who gives a voice to the titular character and had this to say of the special:
I’ve had a fantastic time voicing this lovable and endearing character, and I can’t wait for 'Master Moley' to be enjoyed by kids and families for years to come.
Home Alone and Harry Potter director Chris Columbus (Movies 1 and 2) is celebrating a return to the Christmas genre as the success of his new Netflix film, The Christmas Chronicles, breaks a record. Take a look at his post from Instagram!
The Christmas Chronicles has done so well on Netflix that Columbus and his company, 1492 Pictures, have secured a multi-year first look deal with the streaming giant, meaning Netflix gets the first look at any films 1492 Pictures wants to produce. Here's what Columbus had to say about his new partnership:
Partnering with Netflix is a thrilling and exciting opportunity for 1492 Pictures. Being able to create original content on a major motion picture scale is a rarity in Hollywood these days. But not at Netflix. They encourage original ideas and visionary filmmaking. And the icing on the cake? The executives at Netflix are great people who support some of the world's greatest filmmakers like Martin Scorsese and Alfonso Cuarón. I look forward to a long working relationship with Ted Sarandos, Scott Stuber and our guiding light, Racheline Benveniste.
Sir Kenneth Branagh (Gilderoy Lockhart) has taken on another Shakespearean drama, and a new trailer for the film was released this week. The difference this time? Rather than merely playing a character in one of the great works of William Shakespeare, Branagh is actually portraying the Bard himself! In All Is True, Branagh isn't reliving the glory days of Shakespeare's fame but rather follows the Bard as he returns home to his family after the Bard retires from writing plays and enters the final years of his life. Take a look at the trailer!
We aren't sure if you've received your invitation or not, but the residents of Downton Abbey have cordially invited you to return to Downton in 2019, and we're all freaking out over here. Earlier this week, a teaser trailer appeared online that sent fans of the series reaching for their smelling salts and hand fans. Check out the teaser trailer here:

While the end credits indicate clearly that Dame Maggie Smith (Minerva McGonagall) will be involved as the Dowager Countess, we still don't know who Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge) will be portraying. She's on the cast list, but nothing has been revealed so far, except for a few set photos.
Speaking of Staunton, she and her husband, Jim Carter, who happens to play Mr. Carson in the Downton Abbey series and upcoming film, will be hosting a cabaret event this March to raise funds for Kiln Theatre. Here's what they had to say about their involvement in the fundraising efforts for the theatre:
We are excited to be hosting a special one-off cabaret fundraiser for our local theatre. The show will be packed full of surprises as some of Britain's best known performers get together for an evening of music and laughter.
Also slated to perform during the event is Jim Broadbent, whom many of you recognize as Horace Slughorn from the Potter films. You can learn more about the event and purchase tickets here.
For all of you Call of Duty: Black Ops fans, we hope you're ready for this! Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) has joined the latest update to the game, as the voice of psychic Madame Mirela in "Dead of the Night." Check it out!
'Dead of the Night' is set at Rhodes Manor, a palatial estate in the English countryside, in the year 1912. Dozens of friends and enemies of relic-hunter Alistair Rhodes have been invited for a party. But it turns out the entire affair is actually a trap. A secret society of mystics unleash a spell that transforms all but four of the guests into zombies. As 'Dead of the Night' progresses, these characters go from strangers to a tight-knit team, seeking clues and performing tasks they hope will bring this nightmare to an end.
Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley) joined the cast of The Kitchen as announced back in September, and we've recently come across some set photos from the film we're totally digging, man. Check out the '70s fashion!
In The Kitchen, Domhnall plays Gabriel O'Malley, a Vietnam veteran who worked for gangsters in the neighborhood as a hitman, but returns after skipping town to settle the score after the wives take over their husbands' affairs after they are jailed by the FBI. Domnhall's character ends up falling for Claire, played by Elisabeth Moss.
Here's the full plot info!
'The Kitchen' stars Oscar nominee Melissa McCarthy ('Bridesmaids'), Tiffany Haddish ('Girls Trip') and Elisabeth Moss ('The Handmaid’s Tale') as three 1978 Hell’s Kitchen housewives whose mobster husbands are sent to prison by the FBI. Left with little but a sharp ax to grind, the ladies take the Irish mafia’s matters into their own hands—proving unexpectedly adept at everything from running the rackets to taking out the competition…literally.
A trailer for Jason Isaacs' (Lucius Malfoy) Hotel Mumbai was released this week, and it's intense! This movie has been in the works for a very long time, and it tells the true story of the 2008 terrorist attack on the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. Isaacs portrays a Russian businessman named Vasili, and the film follows the staff and guests as they attempt to survive the attack. Hotel Mumbai is scheduled for a March 29 release.
Sophie Thompson, who portrayed Mafalda Hopkirk in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and is the sister of fellow Potter actress Dame Emma Thompson, will perhaps reprise her Four Weddings and Funeral role for Red Nose Day 2019! The special short film, One Red Nose Day and a Wedding, is set to air on March 23 on NBC, and it will feature many of the same cast members from the film in a new installment that is set 25 years after the first film. Sophie Thompson portrayed Lydia, the bride from the second wedding in the film. Hopefully, we'll find out what's been happening with Lydia since the happy event!
Speaking of Dame Emma Thompson (Sybill Trelawney), the first trailer for the remake of Men in Black was released Thursday, which includes the return of Thompson as Agent O. This new film in the MIB universe is set to hit theaters on June 14, 2019. Take a look at Men in Black: International!
Finally, major news that may hit home for children of the '80s. The Dark Crystal is being reimagined for a new generation on Netflix, and the cast list was just released this week. It features a few familiar names, and we couldn't be happier about it! The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a ten-episode series that is based on the beloved Jim Henson film and will take place a few years before the original. It will feature the voice talents of Helena Bonham Carter, Toby Jones (voice of Dobby), Natalie Dormer (audiobook narrator of Harry Potter: A History of Magic), Ralph Ineson (Amycus Carrow), and Jason Isaacs, just to name a few. Check out the plot according to Netflix:
The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.
Callum Turner, who has been breaking hearts since the moment he appeared as Theseus Scamander in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, will appear alongside C.B. Strike star Holliday Grainger (Robin Ellacott) in a new six-episode series, The Capture. Filming has already begun in London, and according to Backstage, there is current casting sure to take place while they are filming on location. Here's a very brief synopsis:
'The Capture' is a timely surveillance thriller set in London, starting with the arrest of an innocent man and building to a multi-layered conspiracy.
Jude Law (Albus Dumbledore) has a number of films we are looking forward to seeing, and last week a trailer and a new clip dropped! First, the hotly anticipated trailer for Captain Marvel was released, which you can see below.
The second film, Vox Lux, also released a new clip featuring Law. In Vox Lux, Law plays a bit of a slimy talent manager for Natalie Portman's character, rising pop star sensation Celeste. In a recent interview about his role in the film, Law told Vulture he drew inspiration from another film.
People who have lived lives that have burned the candle at both ends, and somehow lived in that witching hour, where you wonder how they get through the day before they need another drink or another drug. For that, I kind of look more at 'Killing of a Chinese Bookie', specifically. I didn’t want to play some generic sleazebag. I wanted to really understand his ambitions for this young woman, his belief in the process, his hopes, and then his failings. You construct a three-dimensional, hopefully realistic and believable, person that you like, and you dislike, and you understand, and you also question.
Law's character is simply called "the manager," but never fully named in the film. Take a look at the exclusive Moviefone clip below and then make sure to check out Vox Lux, out now in theaters!
Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski) seems to be everywhere these days! From his lovable portrayal of Jacob in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald to his new role as Luke on Season 9 of The Walking Dead, and even into projects you may not be aware of (like the fact that he has his own comic book series and he has narrated the new Audible Originals Audio Adventure Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald: Makers, Mysteries and Magic), Dan has proven himself to be a diverse talent. If you haven't seen the comedy The Goldbergs on ABC, you're missing out on more Dan Fogler comedy gold. Dan occasionally portrays Uncle Marvin on the series, and he filmed two episodes that aired just before the holiday break. In Episode 9, Uncle Marvin flaunts his access to the VIP section of a dance club for Barry's bachelor party. He then returns for Episode 10, titled "Yippee Ki Yay Melon Farmer," as the Goldbergs attempt to save Christmas.

Eddie Redmayne's (Newt Scamander) schedule just got a bit lighter, at least for the foreseeable future. A film he was scheduled to begin work on this February has been put on hold, according to the Hollywood Reporter after a statement from Amblin Partners made the rounds last week. The Trial of the Chicago 7, in which Eddie was set to portray 1960s anti-war and civil rights activist Tom Hayden, has been in the works with Amblin Partners for the last ten years, with Aaron Sorkin signing on to the film as director this October. Here's a brief plot summary:
In 1969, seven defendants – Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, David Dellinger, Tom Hayden, Rennie Davis, John Froines, and Lee Weiner — were put on trial, charged with conspiracy and other charges related to anti-Vietnam War protests that took place during the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The trial became a hot-button topic across the country, and represented the fractured nature of the country at the time.
There is no word on when or if production will move forward, or if Eddie will remain attached to the project given this delay. We'll keep an eye out and update as information becomes available.
The Walking Dead is not for the faint of heart, and the addition of the Alpha (a.k.a. the big bad for the latter half of Season 9) and the Whisperers have not helped us in the least. You can't tell from the following poster, which was released on December 19, but Samantha Morton (Mary Lou Barebone) as Alpha is under this zombie skin mask. Consider us scared. And a bit grossed out.
We're huge fans of the music from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, so when composer and musician Imogen Heap announced earlier this month that she was headed to North America for a tour, we immediately began checking our calendars!
Most likely, she won't be playing any music from the play, but her music is innovative and moving, so attendees are sure to have a great time. Tickets went on sale December 14, and you can purchase yours here!
Noma Dumezweni (Hermione Granger) has thrown her support behind the Eclipse Award, which will offer artists or independent companies a £10,000 award plus a range of marketing, press, and tech support to help black artists participate in Edinburgh Fringe 2019 by removing some of the barriers that can keep minority artists from showing.
It’s fantastic to see an established company like Eclipse continually opening doors for black artists and pushing to make the theatre industry more representative of the whole of society. Being a part of the Edinburgh Fringe was a major milestone in my career. I’m really pleased to be a patron to this award and to offer my support to the next generation of young black artists.
Artists wishing to apply for this award can submit an application via the Eclipse Theatre. The deadline for submissions is February 4, 2019, and is open to black artists or black-led companies based in the UK outside Scotland.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child producer Sonia Friedman and her company Sonia Friedman Productions have been nominated for Producer of the Year for the Stage Awards 2019. In 2018, Sonia Friedman Productions had four productions ongoing in multiple places, including The Inheritance, The Ferryman, The Jungle, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, with the latter three productions all transferring to Broadway, and Cursed Child adding productions in Melbourne, Australia, and preparing for the addition of San Francisco, California, and Hamburg, Germany. Winners for the Stage Awards will be announced on January 25 at the Bridge Theatre in London. A full list of nominees can be found here.
If you have been watching the C.B. Strike television series, then you know exactly who Killian Scott is. The actor has portrayed Detective Inspector Eric Wardle opposite Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger in the show, but now he'll be starring as one of the leads of his own series! Killian will star as Rob Reilly in Dublin Murders, a psychological thriller penned by The Casual Vacancy screenwriter Sarah Phelps in which the murder of two women who don't appear to be connected may actually be more than meets the eye. Dublin Murders is an adaptation of Tana French's first two novels in her Dublin Murder Squad series, In the Woods and The Likeness. No word on when the series will air, but we do know that it is slated to air in eight parts.
