Creators of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” Address Bringing the Play to Hamburg, Germany
It won’t be long before Harry Potter and the Cursed Child premieres in Hamburg, Germany – the very first non-English-speaking country to host the magical play. With this upcoming event, J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne released a video last week discussing their feelings about this huge step. Watch the full video below.
Rowling begins the video by talking about this brand-new adventure bringing both nerves and excitement.
Hamburg feels a very big step for us because it’s the first time we’re going to a non-English-speaking theater.
Tiffany mentions the theater where they will be performing in Hamburg, which is the Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt. The historic and architecturally pleasing building is very different from the theaters used in previous cities and the creators are intrigued by the new layout in the context of the play.
The creators are also interested in the process of translating the play into a new language. Up until now, the play had only ever been done in English and they are very excited to be able to recreate the magic in another language.
Tickets for the show in Hamburg will go on sale March 25, 2019, and the play will premiere in 2020. If you’re interested in attending, there is a newsletter that fans can sign up for and will receive information and updates about purchasing tickets.
