Interviews and Podcasts: Daniel Radcliffe on “How Did This Get Made?” and “Off Camera” with Sam Jones

by Madison Brown · February 23, 2019

Daniel Radcliffe has been incredibly busy. Somehow, around the premiere of his new show, Miracle Workers, and heading to Australia to film Escape from Pretoria, our favorite Chosen One was a guest with his girlfriend, Erin Darke, on the podcast How Did This Get Made?, hosted by Paul Scheer and Jason Mantzoukas.

On this episode of How Did This Get Made?, the hosts discussed the 2015 historical action film Dragon Blade, starring Jackie Chan, John Cusack, and Adrien Brody. In the film, the Chinese government tasks a protection squad to stop violence and promote peace in the country during the Han dynasty. During the podcast, the guests and host dissected the film, which was a success in China but was met with mixed reviews internationally, earning a 34% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Daniel Radcliffe says that Dragon Blade was “entertainingly, crazily bad,” and it is mentioned that not once in the entire movie was there actually mention of a dragon blade, so what’s with the title? Radcliffe and Darke watched the film twice before guesting on the podcast, so they were well prepared for the hilarity that ensues.

On a more serious note, Radcliffe also sat down to chat with Sam Jones for his show Off Camera. They discuss a number of topics, including preparing for the fame that came with playing Harry Potter, alcoholism, performing in the play Equus, and on-set behavior as a child.

The good solution, the proper solution to an actor behaving badly on set, is to nip it in the bud there and then and to take them aside and to sort it out, to just go, ‘Why are you acting like this? Don’t do this. You are holding the set up.’ Also, that’s never the right solution in the moment because in the moment, you also have a crew and a cast full of people who just want to shoot the stuff they have to shoot that day and go home.

Radcliffe’s episode is not yet available on Netflix, but you can watch clips on the Off Camera YouTube channel or purchase the entire episode on the official website.

Are there any questions you’ve always wanted to ask Daniel Radcliffe? What are they? Let us know!
