The Harry Potter Alliance Is Launching Its Tenth Annual Book Drive
If you’re a Harry Potter fan who happens to love reading just as much as Hermione does, you’re probably well aware of the Harry Potter Alliance’s (HPA) annual worldwide book drive. The charity launches a series of projects throughout the year, and in 2018, it did a whole lot of good with the Owls of Hope project, which encouraged fans to send messages of love and support to refugees. Now the HPA is launching its tenth annual worldwide book drive, called Accio Books.
The campaign will be launched on April 18 and run until May 31. It will raise funds to help communities in need all around the world. Partnering up with Reading Is Fundamental, which is the largest nonprofit organization for children’s literacy, the HPA will be sending books to organizations like the Book Fairies in New York, Bernie’s Book Bank in Chicago, and San Arda Elementary School in Monterey County, California. For the duration of the campaign, Harry Potter fans in 38 countries around the world will host book drives to collect the books needed for the project.
Accio Books has done a lot of good work since its establishment in 2009. The charity has gone out of its way to provide kids with books and help libraries in need. Thousands of wizard activists have been trained to lead campaigns in their communities and do their part to help change the world for the better.
The HPA has also done its part to aid in the building of new libraries and even helped restock several libraries in Puerto Rico after the destruction of Hurricane Maria. It’s also organized book giveaways for immigrant and refugee families in the Netherlands. Since this is its tenth year of launching Accio Books, the HPA wants to pull out all the stops – it’s planning on surpassing 400,000 books donated around the world and supporting 70 literacy organizations. It is also partnering with We Need Diverse Books to help diversify public and home library collections. Looking at all the projects the HPA has successfully completed, we’re confident that the charity will reach its goal.
Anyone who loves stories and believes in the power they have can join the Accio Books campaign. If you’re eager to get involved and be part of this amazing cause, you can visit Accio Books’ website to find all the information you’ll need to make a difference in your own community. We think that aside from SPEW, this is a project Hermione would be really proud of.
