MinaLima Heading to Japan to Celebrate the Official Opening of Their Pop-Up Store
by Bethan Roberts · May 31, 2019
The partnership of Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima is behind the creation of many of the props and graphics seen throughout the Wizarding World franchise, including the Harry Potter series, and now a new pop-up store in Japan will give even more fans the chance to immerse themselves in their creations!
Since 2016, House of MinaLima has stood in London, allowing UK fans the chance to engross themselves within the visuals that brought the series to life, but the studio has decided to expand beyond the United Kingdom to Osaka, Japan, to create two dedicated spaces to celebrate not only their creations but also the Wizarding World itself.
On display is a curated selection built from over 18 years of partnership that will bring to fans some of the most recognizable designs from the Harry Potter and the Fantastic Beasts series in the form of limited-edition art prints, posters, stationery, and accessories. The studio was also behind many of the most iconic props from the series, including the Marauder’s Map and copies of the Daily Prophet newspaper, both of which fans will be able to inspect closely to find hidden details.
The pop-up had a soft opening back in April, but the cofounders plan to celebrate the official opening of their new location by meeting and greeting fans in Japan from June 14 to 17. The duo will also be giving a series of talks about graphic design and the inspirations behind their work within the Wizarding World.
Fans will be able to catch these talks in the pop-up store in Osaka on June 14–15, or at a secret location in Tokyo, Japan, on June 17.
With many fans having already taken advantage of the store’s soft opening, the Black family tapestry is currently proving to be the most popular prop that’s on display.
It’s the Black family tapestry that’s the most popular thing, which is really lovely because it’s kind of a piece that’s artistically more layered and has a bit more history.
The latest addition that fans can look forward to is an exclusive replica Hogwarts acceptance letter handwritten by Mina, which can be personalized or bought as an exact replica. Each letter is further encased in a silk-bound deluxe box and is handcrafted to each order.
For fans who can’t make the talks, there should be more chances to interact with MinaLima since they plan to maintain a presence in Japan.
The idea is to scatter these things across and build up more presence there. It’s a bit of the world we haven’t explored. And it’s very heartening to know things are going on out there – all because of Harry Potter.
To find out more about booking your ticket to any of the talks, be sure to check out their website!
