“Finding the Way Home” Documentary to Air on HBO
J.K. Rowling’s Lumos Foundation has been working to help children in orphanages for nearly 15 years. Now, HBO is shedding some light – no pun intended – on the charity’s hard work with its new documentary, Finding the Way Home.
The documentary, set to air in December, combines several stories from the families helped by Lumos and the dedicated social workers and foster parents who fight for them. Emmy winners Jon Alpert and Matthew O’Neill direct this fascinating story of family and what it truly means to be home, which will be produced as a part of HBO’s 2019 documentary slate.
Lumos’s chief goal is to end the systematic institutionalization of children in orphanages and instead find sustainable, stable community-based solutions that help them stay with their families. Since 2005, the foundation has worked all over Europe, Haiti, and the United States to implement new models of childcare that support families instead of orphanages. The documentary will seek to illustrate this effort, showcasing Lumos’s work to advance this goal on a global scale.
Little else is known about the documentary, so we’ll all just have to wait until it airs in December. Until then, you can learn more about Lumos on its website and Twitter.
