“The Sims 4: Realm of Magic” Takes a Page out of the “Harry Potter” Books
If you’re an avid player of the Sims games, then you’re in for some good news today. The latest expansion pack, titled Realm of Magic, will enhance the already expansive world of Sims!
The trailer opens on a Sim walking through the woods, looking bored. He’s handsome and has curly blond hair. Think about what Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) might look like within the Sims universe. He happens upon a cryptic archway engulfed in a green glow. And what do you do when you find a magical archway in the middle of the woods? You walk through, of course, and so does our curious Sim.
The moment he crosses the arch, a new world appears. Purple and green ambient light creates the sky in this dimension, giving the game a very sorcerous vibe. The Gothic aesthetic is visible in nearly every aspect, from the architecture to the clothing. Because what would wizardry be without a little goth in the mix? There are also hints of new magical creatures players can interact with.
Since the Sims universe is all about freedom, there are so many new in-game ventures to try out. Players can brew potions, practice charms, cast spells, and duel their enemies. But don’t forget the trademark to any witch or wizard – flying a broomstick! Now, while we can’t say there will be any Quidditch matches in this expansion pack, the whole game definitely has that Harry Potter feel fans are looking for. The pack is being released in stores and online on September 10!
The trailer drop for Realm of Magic follows closely behind the release of The Sims 4: Island Living, which has seen good reviews so far. EA Games producer Michael Duke says this year could be “the best year yet” for The Sims. Since its release in February 2000, the franchise has come a long way. After 19 years and several expansions, it’s pretty clear this game isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
