UPDATED: Alison Sudol Will Speak Alongside Greta Thunberg and Other Activists at the Tenth Annual Social Good Summit
New York City will host the tenth annual Social Good Summit on September 22. The primary goal of the Summit is to bring together activists, scientists, and famous figures. The gathering strives to ignite “inspiring conversations on how we can all help our global community achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).” The United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Foundation, Mashable, and 92nd Street Y helped developed the Social Good Summit ten years ago and will all participate in this year’s discussions. The Summit occurs while the UN General Assembly is also in session.
This year, however, the Summit is planning to focus on one of the most pressing issues of the day: climate change. A wide range of speakers has been announced, including Greta Thunberg (the world-renowned 16-year-old climate activist), Katie Couric (reporter for The Today Show, CBS Evening News 60 Minutes), and Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald). Other speakers of various backgrounds, perspectives, and expertise are scheduled to speak at the Summit, and the list is not short.
Achim Steiner, an administrator for the United Nations Development Programme, spoke about the Summit and his anticipation to create real change.
Youth leaders are rightfully impatient for leadership on climate change and are taking charge of their own future. This is our collective moment in history to disrupt the status quo, and the Social Good Summit is just the kind of platform young people need to have their voices heard loud and clear. Let’s follow their lead, join forces, and take action today to protect our planet for generations to come.
Tickets are now on sale for the Social Good Summit.
