Murder, Mystery, and Deceit; “The Good Nurse” Is the Story of “America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer”
The Good Nurse is confirmed to start production soon. Eddie Redmayne will portray Charlie Cullen, and Jessica Chastain will play a coworker from Cullen’s life. Rumors of the movie began spreading in 2018, and it is currently in preproduction. FilmNation is producing the film, which is rumored to have a budget of $30 million.
The story of Charlie Cullen is pretty horrific. Cullen was a nurse in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for several years. During his career, it’s estimated he killed as many as 300 patients between 1988 and 2003. He has been deemed one of America’s “most prolific serial killers,” earning him the name “the Angel of Death.” Despite being a father and husband, Cullen spent 16 years going unnoticed by staff and medical admin over nine different facilities. Like many serial killers, he showed signs of being mentally unstable through his childhood and early adult life. His wife noted his strange behaviors and also his abusing the family pets.
Cullen pled guilty in 2003 to killing only 40 people and received 11 consecutive life sentences. He will be up for parole in 2403.
The Good Nurse, a book written by Charles Graeber, was published in 2013 and gives an account of Cullen’s life and crimes. The movie adaptation of The Good Nurse will be based on the book and is being written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns and directed by Tobias Lindholm.
It will be very interesting, and maybe a little creepy, to see Redmayne in this context after seeing him in the Fantastic Beasts films and The Aeronauts.
The Good Nurse does not have an estimated release date as of yet. But as soon as we know something, you’ll know something.
